Things You Need To Know About Female Viagra

Flibanserin a.k.a “Female Viagra” has finally been approved by the FDA after twice of rejection because its negative effects outweighed its benefits. It was originally studied to treat woman depression, but eventually turned as a prescription drug for women suffering from lack of sexual desire.

Women sexual drive naturally fluctuates every year due to pregnancy, menopausal, or illness. There are medications for mood disorder that causes low sex drive in women. But if the lack of sex drive leads to personal distress, it is called hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) and this is what Flibanserin drugs claim to medicate.

There were discussions as to whether the Flibanserin tablets should be referred to “female viagra” as the counterpart of male viagra.

Female Viagra vs. Male Viagra

How is this being debated?
Male viagra is being prescribed for a temporary solution of the mechanical problem of a man down below to ensure the blood will flow on his penis for greater sex experience. It is prescribed as “when needed”, and can actually be used by some women. While Flibanserin is designed to be taken daily on a regular basis and is a medication for the brain. It works for the neurotransmitters, dopamine, endorphins, and other happy hormones that is why it was originally studied to treat woman depression. Technically, it is not designed for mechanical problem unlike to male viagra.

Having said these, Flibanserin is not for everyone. The hype in the market certainly describes it as a male viagra, but technically they are different it lots of ways. Viagra works on men 100% of the time whenever they need it, while Flibanserin only works on few women. Another difference is that male viagra works immediately after taking it whenever they want to have sex, while the “female viagra” takes about four weeks before seeing an effect. It actually works to release the happy hormones of a woman, more of like an antidepressant. There is no clear claim if whether the drug can help increase the libido of a woman or not.

Is it safe?

FDA is requiring both doctors and pharmacists to undergo an online certification process before being allowed to prescribe or dispense the drug. There are also side effects when taking the tablets. It includes dropping of blood pressure, nausea, and fainting. Women who are drinking alcohol must abstain from the activity once taking the drug, this means no consuming of alcohol. Drinking alcohol while under medication will cause fainting.

A woman who is also in medication with same content as Flibanserin is not allowed to take the drug because it will increase the risk of fainting. A health professional will assess the woman before prescribing.

As you notice, there are lots of precautions and assessments before a woman is allowed to take the drugs. As to whether its claims are true, there were small testimonies from women who used the drugs that they experienced positive result and change in their sexual desire.

Remember, a man only needs his penis to be erected so he can have sex and that’s what male viagra do, while woman needs her mind, body, and mood to work together to have a pleasurable sex.
